Cooperation Project "History Competitions in Countries of the Eastern Partnership" Got off to Good Start
In Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, excitement is rising: in March, all four Eastern Partnership countries have deadlines coming up for this year's history competition entries. The organisers expect an active participation.
The high number of participants particularly in the teacher training seminars in October and November indicates a high level of interest in the 2019/20 competition: More than 350 potential tutors attended the 18 workshops organised by the project teams of the countries. The preparation of the workshops also drew on materials and experience of Körber-Stiftung. For the most part, these were one-day workshops taking place at different locations in the respective countries. Teachers not only received general information about the project, the competition rules and requirements, but were also given practical training in areas such as what to keep in mind when conducting eyewitness interviews, how to use oral and visual sources, and what Digital History can do. In the months that followed, they passed on these important basic facts and tools to the students they supervised.
Between December and March, the project teams were in close contact with the tutors and provided support, new input and encouragement via specially created websites or Facebook pages. In Georgia, the video interviews with the 2018 competition winners were watched more than five thousand times. Even in the remote Georgian mountain region of Svanetia, students are currently doing research: from there, the organisers received a photo of a student in knee-deep snow holding up the competition poster.
The continuation of the cooperation project between Körber-Stiftung and the German Adult Education Association International (DVVI) which is funded by the German Foreign Office has successfully entered its operational phase. Now the jury members and the organisers are waiting for a large number of interesting competition projects.
